 2017-2018 Student Travel Awards Announcement

The Psychology Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is offering a limited number of travel awards (up to $200 each) for undergraduate students presenting original psychological research results at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting. Award recipients are required to acknowledge CUR for support of their travel in their talk or poster, to complete a short evaluation in either written or video form about their meeting experience within 30 days of completing travel, and to submit a PDF file of their poster. Minority students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The student must be an undergraduate at either a two- or four-year institution.  If the student is a graduating senior, travel must be completed within three months of graduation.

  • The student’s mentor must be a CUR member, or the student’s home institution must be a CUR institutional member

 Application Materials:

  • The electronic application form must be completed by a nominating faculty mentor.
  • The nominating faculty mentor will need to provide the following information:

(a) abstract of the student project (see below for more details);

(b) description of the student's involvement in undergraduate research;

(c) description of how the work submitted contributes to the student's long-term goals; and

(d) description of how a travel award will enable the student to participate more fully in research.

Selection Criteria: Travel award recipients will be chosen on the responses provided to each question; as well as the scholarly merit of their abstract.  The abstract should contain the following information:

  • A sentence that clearly states the study’s OBJECTIVE (unless included in the title);
  • A brief statement of METHODS (if pertinent);
  • A summary of the RESULTS;
  • A statement of CONCLUSIONS (it is not acceptable to state "the results will be discussed");
  • A statement of SIGNIFICANCE.

Deadline: Applications must be received by 5:00 pm ET October 15, 2017, for meetings held before February 15, 2018, or by 5:00 pm ET February 15, 2018, for meetings held after February 15, 2018.  Applicants will be notified four to six weeks after the deadline.
